Going Camping!

Yosemite is one of my all-time favorite places. When I was little, my dad was a Ranger and we lived in the Park in the summers. I backpacked as soon as I could walk, pretty much. I didn't even sleep in a tent until I was in my late teens; my dad was a minimalist and liked to sleep under the stars, so that is what we did.

M has been to Yosemite before, but she doesn't remember it. Tomorrow - EARLY - we are going camping for several days. We're going to be up in Tuolumne. We are going to be camping in a campground (gasp!) but it should still be fun.

The picture is of me when I was five. That is a fishing creel slung around my shoulders. I was "required" to learn how to flyfish, because my father did, and his father did, and ... my dad knew how to take anything and make it into work. He's fun like that.

M and I are just going to walk around and look at all the pretty things. Bootcamp can wait until she's older, as far as I'm concerned.

  4. I'm not a hardcore camper. I've gotta have a place to shower and a bathroom. I'm just not a go out in the bushes kinda gal LOL But I do like to get out and explore and I would totally LOVE to explore Yosemite! It's on my bucket list:)

  5. I'm very jealous. Never been to Yosemite and when I finally get there I'll probably see little more than the hordes that pass through in the Winnebagos. Such is the fate of a Mississippi boy who loves the mountains. Please post photos!

  8. Frank: Thank you! Such a shame that we grow up...

Bev: I’d have your back; any time, sister!

Mary: I know what you mean. Good memories.

obmj: If you know where to go, there are showers to be had. But you do get used to the funk. Yosemite has a wealth of options across the spectrum of “roughing it”; don’t let that keep you away!

tb: Stick to the high country and you’ll see fewer “hordes”! Do the valley in day trips and it is much more enjoyable.

    DW: thank you!

Stephen: don’t you love the filthy tummy? :)

We got back last night. As soon as I get settled, I’ll tell you all about it!

  9. WTH? How have I missed all this? I'd leave a comment like "have a great trip" but that would be ridiculous as we all know how it turns out. Stupid me.
